It has become the prerogative of the Centre Secretary to organize and otherwise sort out our January- Special Annual Run.I say special as those of us lucky enough to live here also have many other ‘runs’ during our Annual Calendar.
The January Run is always ‘special’ for many different reasons. The first of the New Year and also to commemorate the founding of the Cornwall Centre This year was ‘Special” as it was the 21st year of Tinmog. It was also special as out of nowhere our illustrious leader had conjured a ‘Blue Sky Day’ –wall-to-wall sunshine with a slight chill in the air, but an excellent day in prospect.
We met at Chiverton Cross with the luxury of a Starbuck’s for those wishing to take in some warm liquid.Setting off at 10.30 prompt with hoods down (Tinmogs always do it with them down) at a cracking pace which boded well for those of us who like to ‘move it along a bit.One thought does spring to mind though-think of a cracking whip. The handle hardly moves but the bits at the tail break the sound barrier!

So off we set down A’s and B roads through the centre of Mid-West Cornwall. At times the sun and murky windscreen gave drivers ‘interesting times’,but then a corner was turned and yet another vista opened up.Four Lanes,Praze-an-Beeble and cracking views of the North Coast and St Ives Bay.Then on through Leedstown,Townshend,Marazion.Names from history and perhaps a Stage Coach Route? Then on past Penzance and St Buryan through Crean Bottoms to our comfort stop at Porthcurno with free parking! Leaving that historic site ,marked by many for a return on a day with a little more time ,we edged back passing a sign that said Lands End 2 miles, but now we were on the ‘home straight’ hastening towards our celebration luncheon. First going Eastwards and then turning coastwards at St Buryan towards Paul and down to Mousehole(no cat to be seen on this day though) and then stunning views of Mounts Bay and St Michaels Mount itself, edging through Newlyn, the smell of sea and fish quite evident. Hustling back through Penzance waterside we re-passed Marazion and skirted the edges of HMS Seahawk to drive in land to Gweek-Oh that ozone…or was it just the seals?

Home run now and down muddy roads to the Trengilly Wartha Inn,where at the end almost 70,excellent miles of speedy running and carefully arranged parking, suitable photographs were taken for posterity. Then into our own dining room for a superb lunch with the care of Lisa the Landlady,at the end of which Douglas and Elizabeth Reece two of the original centre founder members – cut the Anniversary Cake donated by Lisa to yet more photographs and loud applause from all assembled.
Thank you Peter and Pip for a day, which at this time of the year exceeded any expectations we had a right to hope for. Steve and Pauline Switzer.
